What is a Drone Flute?
A drone flute is basically 2 flutes connected together. Where you have a main flute body, which is the one you play the notes on.
Then you have drone side, which will play a single specific note, regardless of what holes you press on the main flute side.
Sometimes the drone side have holes with plugs, so you can choose before you start playing, what drone note you want to have.
There are even some drone flutes with triple chambers, so you can have 1 main flute, plus 2 different drones, which creates a big rich harmony when you play.
The Sound of a Drone Flute
It is the “magical harmony” of drone flutes that make them so special.
But instead of worrying of how to create the harmonies, you get it automatically by having the drone note be the same, most often the root note of the key.
