Recording good vocals in a studio (or your home studio), means having the vocalist fairly close to the microphone to get a good signal-to-noise ratio. This means you will inevitably get sibilance (harsh “S” sounds).
To solve this you need a good De-Esser effect plugin in your DAW. Essentially a de-esser is a specialized compressor that are focused on only reducing the harsh frequencies created by the “s” sounds.
