What is a Diminished Chord in Music?
A diminished chord is basically 2 minor thirds stacked on top of each other. Or in other words, a minor chord with a flat 5.
That flat 5 instead of the usual perfect 5th is what makes the diminished chord so high tension and unstable. Because from the root to this flat 5 you actually get the infamous tritone interval.
Depending on the music and practical use it can be: scary, evil, unsettling, strange or quirky.
